The Institute of Women Development Studies (IWDS) University of Sindh and Women Development Department (WDD) Government of Sindh has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen the institute to educate and provide training skills to women of the province.
The MoU was signed by the Secretary of the Women Development Department Subhan Memon and Director of the IWDS Dr Parveen Shah. In this regard a meeting was held to discuss the importance of disciplines of sociology, criminology and women development.
The meeting agreed upon that scholars who are engaged for the Ph.D research programme in sociology as well as criminology would be facilitated in providing data from the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC for enrich to the research produced by the scholars.
The meeting also discussed the opening of CPLC in Hyderabad in collaboration with the CPLC Karachi. The Secretary of Women Development Department while highlighting progress of the department said that they have launched a website about information and working of the department under the MoU. The IWDS of the University and WDD of Government of Sindh would launch collaboratively projects for empowerment of the women of the province in sectors leading to economic, academic, legal and political sectors.
Both departments have agreed to share material in the development of website of WDD time to time for its upgradation and facilitate each other in the development of libraries, studies, and research work for empowerment of women.
The WDD from its ADP project "Implementation of Gender Reform Action Plan (Sindh GARP) will provide a sum of Rs 0.500 million for facilitation to IWDS of the University.
The students of the IWDS will be assigned tasks in WDD to undertake practical work on women issues on internship basis while jobs preferably will be given to the female having M.Sc in Women development studies in the women studies.
The Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui on this occasion briefed the meeting about academic and research programmes in the University and facilities for the students as well as research scholars.
The Minister for Population Welfare and Women Development Ms Nadra Panjwani, pro-vice Chancellor Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Registrar M Saleh Rajar and others were present on the occasion.
