Jamaat-e-Islami on Sunday strongly condemned US interference in government formation process and urged political leaders to keep US ambassador away from the process.
The US ambassador in Islamabad has been actively involved in meeting with leaders of political parties, which have won majority seats in the parliamentary elections and are set to form government.
American envoy recently held meetings with Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party, which has emerged the single largest party in the National Assembly elections.
"We condemn the US naked interference and US envoy meetings with Zaradri," Jamaat-e-Islmai chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed said. Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, the Jamaat leader said that Zaradri is majority party leader and his visiting to the American embassy before the government formation is against the national prestige.
"We demand end to the US interference in government formation process. It is against national sovereignty to inviting American interference," he said.
Qazi said that President Musharraf should have resigned after rejection in election of his supporters, saying that two major parties who will form government should force Musharraf to resign.
"We demand Musharraf must be forced to go. Deposed judges reinstated and constitution restored," he said.
He said the PPP and PML-N had promised to restore judges and the constitution as the masses have given them a mandate for this purpose.
"We will give an opportunity to the upcoming government but it must demand Musharraf's resignation, restore constitution and re-instate judges," Qazi said adding, "we will not go for agitation unless they honour their commitments."
Qazi also appealed to the alliance of opposition parties, the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) to give time to the new government to honour its pledges.
The Jamaat leader called for end to the role of security agencies and interference of army generals in government formation and running affairs of the government. He said that President House must also stop efforts to make its partners in the coming coalition governments.
When asked if JI will join the planned long-march on March 9, for the restoration of judges, Qazi said, "we will give opportunity to the PPP and PML-N. We will not create problems for them. If they say they can not do it, then we will take to the streets."
The Jamaat leader alleged that Muttahida Qaumi Movement committed rigging in Karachi and Hyderabad and took votes at gun point.
