Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif and Amir Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Qazi Hussain Ahmed have called upon President Pervez Musharraf to immediately step down otherwise the opposition parties would move impeachment motion in the parliament against him.
Talking to media following a meeting at the residence of Qazi Hussain Ahmed on Monday, both the leaders asked President Musharraf to immediately step down, claiming that otherwise his opponent political parties-Pakistan People's Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Awami National Party had two-third majority in the Parliament to impeach him.
Nawaz Sharif said a meeting of PPP, PML-N and ANP would take place on February 27 to chalk out a joint strategy against President Musharraf, adding that Musharraf was an unconstitutional president, therefore, he should immediately transfer powers to newly elected parliament and step down with dignity.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed said the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) would not go for agitation since PML-N has assured it to restore judiciary through Parliament. He said the APDM wants to give a chance to new government to work for supremacy of the parliament and restoration of 1973 Constitution.
He said the APDM component parties would extend maximum support to the newly-elected parties if they sincerely worked according to the Constitution. Raja Zafarul Haq, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Nisar Ali Khan and Senator Professor Khursheed Ahmed also attended the meeting.
