A 10-day orientation programme for postgraduate students began in the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore. King Edward Medical University Lahore vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mumtaz Hasan was chief guest in the inaugural session while UVAS vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz and senior faculty members were also present.
Over 120 MPhil and PhD students are participating in the orientation programme. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Mumtaz Hasan urged the students to make the best use of the education and research facilities available on the campus. He told them that it was the turning point of their career and they should have clear objectives and planning to achieve their goal. He said that one could excel in life only through education. The Muslims had a glorious history in the world and he called for following the teachings of Holy Quran to regain their glory. Pakistanis were a brilliant nation, he asserted and said he was confident that they would grow and excel if provided with opportunities.
UVAS vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz said that the postgraduate students had to play a major role in promotion of research on the campus. The orientation programme was compulsory for postgraduate students, the VC said and asked the MPhil and PhD scholars to take it seriously and ensure their attendance throughout the programme.
He said that the UVAS was in its developing stage and development work was in progress on the New Campus at Pattoki. Later the vice-chancellor delivered a lecture on research, its process and methodologies. Earlier Institute of continuing education and extension's Director Dr Muhammad Amin Sheikh in his welcome address said that orientation programme was aimed to train postgraduate students in research techniques, lab work, communication and information technology skills.
