Raw sugar futures edged higher early Tuesday, with prices extending consolidation from a recent breakout to 18-month highs and traders waiting for the next lead, brokers said. "I think this market is going to have a hard time lifting up its head through the recent highs," said one floor dealer.
The ICE Futures electronic May sugar contract was up 0.10 cent to 14.32 cents per lb at 9:29 am EST (1429 GMT), dealing between 14.21 and 14.43. Trading volume Tuesday in the electronic May sugar contract hit 10,224 lots by 9:30 am. Open-outcry volume on Monday totalled 16,148 lots, while screen trade amounted to 108,977 lots, the exchange said.
