The Punjab government in collaboration with Unicef launched a Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) throughout the province to collect relevant data through household surveys to assist local governments in their planning to provide basic amenities to public.
This was stated by Deputy Project Director Sajid Rasool while talking to journalists here at Chak No 447/EB at the launching of the survey in district Vehari on Wednesday. Deputy Project Director Sajid Rasool informed that Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 85 teams with 800 officials are conducting survey for 92,000 house holds to count major 70 indicators which would help local governments in their planning to provide basic facilities to public.
He said in district Vehari seven teams are working in urban and three are working in the rural areas. Sajid Rasool said that (MICS) methodology was established by the government in collaboration with Unicef to get filling data gaps for indicators used to track missing facilities and this survey is designed to generate data in a timely and affordable manner.
He said that survey data would be major source for MDG monitoring, as well as the assessment of progress toward other national and local goals such as included child survival and health, child mortality, Malaria, acute respiratory infections (ARI), diarrhoea diseases, integrated management of childhood diseases (IMCI), child nutrition, child malnutrition, low birth weight, breast feeding, iodine deficiency, vitamin A deficiency, maternal health, maternal mortality, antenatal care, delivery care, fertility and family planning, water and sanitation, education, child protection, birth registration, child work; female genital mutilation, cutting, HIV/AIDS, young people and HIV/AIDS, mother to child transmission, immunisation and others.
He said that the survey would be completed before the budgets session of the local governments and we would give them major indicators in the month of April so that the local government can utilise this information for their planning.
