The policies of the previous government will be reviewed and good policies out of them to stay on course for the welfare of the people.
"We will also revive Independent Power Policy (IPP) for the private sector which was initiated by our government to overcome power shortages in the country," Economic Adviser of Pakistan Peoples Party, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig told APP here on Thursday.
He vowed to facilitate the common man at his doorstep but "tough decisions in the best interest of the country are unavoidable," he added. He, however, criticised the previous government's decision of exporting wheat at Rs 240 per 40-kg and importing the commodity at Rs 480 per 40-kg causing losses to the national kitty.
Baig assured the nation that PPP would make long and small term policies to overcome current food crisis and put the economy on right track. He claimed that the current account deficit has been increased and to meet the budgetary deficit "increasing the prices of petrol is now indispensable."
He said that "wrong policies and planning" of the former government to deal with imports and exports of wheat created the flour crisis. Baig said that the co-chairman of PPP, Asif Ali Zardari called on a meeting of the business community asking them to envisage a plan and suggestions for the government how to overcome the current economic crisis and put the country back on the path of progress and prosperity.
He also said that during the meeting the Patron in Chief of BNG group, Siraj Teli had discussed the pre-emptive measures and a roadmap to correct the economic situation in the country.
