The Swiss franc rallied against major currencies and set a new record high against the dollar early on Monday as traders braced for a slew of data expected to show Swiss inflation holding near a 14-year peak. The franc held near an all-time high against the dollar at 1.0318 per dollar sharply higher compared to late Friday New York levels near 1.0417 francs.
The franc was also higher against the euro at 1.5714 compared to late New York levels of 1.58 levels not seen since mid-2006. Analysts said the franc had begun to pick up strengthening momentum of its own - independent of widespread dollar weakness seen elsewhere.
