Argentine 2007/08 wheat export commitments stood at 7.047 million tonnes by February 29, unchanged from a week earlier, the Agriculture Secretariat said in its latest weekly report. The data corresponds to the wheat harvest that ended in January.
Meanwhile, sales of 2006/07 wheat stood at 8.74 million tonnes. Argentina's government estimates the 2007/08 wheat harvest will reach 15.4 million tonnes, and the US Department of Agriculture forecasts the country's 2007/08 exports at 10 million tonnes. Last week, the government said it had decided to further delay the reopening of the wheat export registry until April 8 in a measure aimed at safeguarding domestic supplies.
CORN SALES UP: Argentine export commitments of 2006/07 corn rose to 14.71 million tonnes by February 29, up from 14.345 million a week earlier, the Agriculture Secretariat said in its latest weekly report. Meanwhile, sales of 2005/06 corn stood at 10.55 million tonnes.
The government reported corn export commitments of 365,000 tonnes to unspecified destinations last week. Argentina's government estimates the corn harvest that ended last August at a record 21.8 million tonnes, while the US Department of Agriculture forecasts the country's 2006/07 exports at 15.3 million tonnes.
