Federal Human Rights Minister Ansar Burney on Wednesday wrote to the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Law and Justice calling for an urgent report on the status of alleged house arrest of the former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice lftikhar Ahmad Chaudhry and his family members.
In his letters to the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Law and Justice, Ansar Burney asked for details on the status of the detention of the former CJP; and if he is indeed under house arrest, then Burney requested that it should be made clear that under what law he is under this detention and for what reason, says a press statement issued by the Press Information Department here on Wednesday.
The letters sent on behalf of the Ministry of Human Rights took strong notice of reports that the family members of the former CJP have also been put under house arrest and demanded that this situation may be clarified immediately.
Ansar Burney said that through his interactions with the mentioned ministries, he was informed that the former CJP was not under house arrest and was actually forcefully occupying the residence.
However, he has read many media reports and statements from family members who say that the CJP (Retd.) and his family indeed under house arrest and their movement is very restricted. For that reason, the Ministry of Human Rights has called for written (official) clarification from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Law and Justice.
