The local police on Wednesday used heavy shelling of tear gas and batton charged to disperse a students' rally taken out against the republication of the blasphemous caricatures in the European newspapers.
Five students were injured due to tear-gas and batton-charged and also arrested 35 activists of Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT). The tear gas was so sudden that a number of shopkeepers abandon their business and rushed towards safe places for cover, a number of people came under attacks of heavy shelling and become unconscious.
The rally started from Chowk Yadgar, a busy business centre, joined by hundreds of activists of the teaching institutions from Charsadda, Mardan and Peshawar.
The protesters were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the republishing of the blasphemous caricatures marching on different roads at Khyber Bazaar, they were intercepted by a heavy contingent of police to stop them from marching towards Governor's House.
The President of J I, Qazi Hussain Ahmad has strongly condemned the use of force and lobbing of tears gas shells on peaceful students' protest. Meanwhile, leadership of the IJT has demanded Governor NWFP and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) to immediately resign for allowing the law and enforcement agencies to use force to disperse the peaceful demonstration protest taken out to condemn heinous act against our Holy Prophet (SAW).
Addressing a press conference, Nazim IJT NWFP Ajmal Khan and others charged Governor, Owais Ahmad Ghani demanded the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) to suspend diplomatic ties with Danish government.
