Crackdown against the activists of banned outfits continued in Southern Punjab on Thursday. Police on Wednesday night arrested more than 50 suspects in raids over Tuesday's suicide attacks in Lahore. Police said the suspects, most of them from banned militant organisations, were held from Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Okara, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
A senior police official said law-enforcement agencies had recovered the chassis (number 3L3849728) of the vehicle used in the attack on the FIA regional headquarters. The vehicle was registered by one Chaudhry Imtiaz Kamboh from Faisalabad. Three suspects that he identified were held in raids in Kot Lakhpat and Nishtar Colony.
Activists of banned Sipah-i-Sahaba, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Jaish-i-Muhammad were taken into custody in southern Punjab and were being interrogated at different places. Bhakkar Police have also taken into custody activists Muhammad Akram Farooq, Munir Ahmed, Nazar Hussain, Muhammad Tariq, Abdul Jabbar, Habib-ur-rehman and Gulzar Ahmed, While Jehanian (Khanewal) police have arrested Dr Khdim Hussain Dhillon, Maulana Munir Akhtar.
Daira Din Panah (Muzaffargarh district) have arrested Usman Haideri, Maulana Muhammad Moosa Kalim, Moulvi Abdul Rehman, Qari Abdul Karim, Muhammad Ilyas, Soofi Mueen-uddin, Ehsan Phullo, Muhammad Safdar, Abdul Hameed from Muzaffargarh, SajjadHussain from Jatoi, Wali Muhammad and Muhammad Ibrahim from Shehr Sultan, Muhammad Rafiq, Muhammad Asif Imran from Rohillanwali and Abdul Razzaq from Khangarh.
Multan Police have taken into custody three activists of banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi from Shujabad. A police official on the condition of anonymity told that three Lashkar-i-Jhangvi men Qari Yousaf Bodla, Qari Muhammad Zubair and Qari Muhammad Arif were taken into custody from a religious seminary of Shujabad and being interrogated. When contacted the SSP (operation) Muhammad Nawaz Waraich declined to confirm or deny this report.
Another police official told that total seven suspects had been taken into custody from different religious seminaries of Multan district. Law-enforcement agencies held Bund Road resident Qari Rehmatullah Taunsvi and his four "guests" from his house, Rehmatullah's wife said.
Police also held a Sipah-e-Sahaba office-bearer and his friend Maulana Muneer Ahmed from Jahania. Senior police and government officials attended a special funeral prayers for 12 employees of the Federal Investigation Agency who died in the attack on the FIA regional headquarters.
