College faculties have threatened to boycott the upcoming intermediate examinations, if the government fails to furnish their demands with immediate effect.
"The provincial government should immediately accept their demands otherwise, we will boycott intermediate examinations", said the President, Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA), Professor Ilyas Qureshi here on Monday.
He was addressing a protest demonstration, participated by the professors and lecturers of the Rawalpindi Division. The General Secretary, PPLA, Rauf Ahmed Shah and other office-bearers also addressed the demonstration. The PPLA president said it seemed some hidden hands were trying to bring the teachers in streets to protest that will surely cause damages to the entire educational system.
However, they would prefer non-violent solution to their problems, he added. Other speakers also demanded of the Education Department to promote the lecturers who were recruited in 1987, implement time-scale, end the deduction of three percent from the Provincial Development Fund and an additional yearly promotion besides immediate upgradation of lecturers. Further, the demonstrators vowed to boycott the upcoming intermediate examinations all over the province and launch a movement in case their demands were not met.
