The Senior Research Fellow of Brunel University London, Dr Syed Ghulam Sarwar has said that the scholars of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT) should conduct research on key social issues.
He was delivering a lecture on "Writing Collaborative Publications for the International Journals" organised by the IICT at its Multimedia Centre.
The Deans of Faculties, senior professors, faculty members, research scholars and students of various teaching institutes and departments attended the lecture.
Sarwar said the IICT should follow other Pakistani and foreign universities who have been conducting research to provide relief to their community. He said that the scholars in this advance age need to interact with scholars across the world to identify people's problem.
The speaker also said collecting primary data and its utilisation is an art and publication of research work in journals of international repute is a key to their success. "Senior scholars should recognise and appreciate the research conducted by a group of scholars as it holds a distinctive place at international level", he said and added that the internet has transformed the world into a global village and related information and data can be obtain from the web.
Sarwar lauded the Higher Education Commission Islamabad, who has provided higher education and research facilities to a number of scholars in Pakistan. Further, he said that scholars could get data from the IICT 's digital library as well.
The Vice Chancellor, Sindh University (SU), Mazharul Haq Siddiqui praised the speaker for presenting an informative lecture and said that a good number of scholars from the SU are engaged in PhD programme in Brunel University, England and they are doing excellent work, as reported by their supervisors.
Further, the VC said that the SU and Brunel University have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for academic and research promotion programmes. While addressing the gathering, the Director, IICT, Dr Imdad Ali Ismaili briefed the house about academic and research programmes of his institution.
He said that the IICT has been offering degrees in 4 disciplines and running evening programmes to facilitate youth's registry in professional programs. Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Dr GM Seehar, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Dr M Qasim Bughio and Dr Khalil Khumbhati also spoke to the gathering.
