Apparel exporters have demanded of the government to provide them with zero-rated export facility and duty-free access to EU and US markets to tackle the rising unemployment in the country. They said on Thursday that high cost of production, export levies and duties on products in the EU and US markets brought many export-oriented industries to closure.
Expressing fear, they said that such a continued decline in production will ultimately give rise to huge unemployment in the country. They said they are not s3eeking any subsidies in this regard but it should resolve apparel exporters issues on priority basis.
They said that industries have potential to augment the exports manifold, as they are fully equipped with the latest technology, however, government's non-financial support is required.
They also demanded of the new government for the same facilities that other regional countries are providing to their apparel sectors so that the local sector could dispatch three-fold export orders annually.
They said the government should also work on removing the negative travel advisories from the western world so that the foreign buyers could easily travel to Pakistan without any fears. This will not only allow us to export at a greater scale but also the local exporters will save expenses of travel to neutral venues for sealing business deals, they said.
