Nominated Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has assured business community that economic policies would be made in consultation with representatives of business community. Talking to a 35 member delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at his residence on Thursday.
He also assured that whenever there is a need to make some changes in economic policies, PPP government would made them in consultation with business community, and take them in confidence. He said that the purpose of holding the meeting is to get a feedback of problems the business community is facing at present and take appropriate measures to resolve them on priority bases after taking over charge.
According to those, participating in the meeting, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the new government would take up issue of power shortage with the concerned agencies and take appropriate measures to resolve it on a priority basis.
He said that the PPP wants to improve living standard of general public, increase industrialisation in Sindh, control price hike, improve law and order and generate employment Expressing concern over frequent power outrage in the city, he said that Karachi is a hub of industrial and economic activities and it must have better working environment.
Spelling out priorities of his government after coming to power, he said improving law and order in the province, rapid industrialization and creating new jobs are on top of the agenda of the party.
Leader of Businessmen Group (BMG) and former president of KCCI, Siraj Kassim Teli said Karachi is paying 68 to 70 percent of the country's taxes, but it receives unfair treatment. Frequent long hour load shedding has crippled industrial and business activities. Law and order condition is also scaring away investors.
He said that the new government should take these issues seriously and get them resolved. He congratulated Syed Qaim Ali Shah on his nomination as next chief minister of the province and said that Qaim Ali Shah is a seasoned politician and has a very sharp view of various matters and issues confronting this city and province. He assured Qaim Ali Shah that the business community would fully support the upcoming PPP government.
Former President KCCI, Zubair Motiwala congratulated Qaim Ali Shah and said that the biggest challenge before the government is continuous long hours of power breakdowns. It may be more serious in peak summer season. Motiwala emphasised the need of early settlement of dispute between KESC and PEPCO regarding dues so that power supply to Karachi could be improved.
Acting President of KCCI, Iftikhar Ahmed Shaikh said the chamber is a representative body of trade and industry of the city, and its suggestions should be given weight, while formulating economic, trade and industrial policies.
