Labour leaders have vowed to stand firmly by the democratic forces in times of trials and frustrate all attempts to derail process of democratisation in the country.
This was resolved at a meeting of trade unions and representatives of banking and non-banking financial institutions, industry, commerce and transport sectors held at the office of the Habib Bank Workers Front, Pakistan, on Wednesday.
It said that the trade unions would not let the process of democratisation derailed. Senior Vice-Chairman of the HBWF and senior labour leader Habibuddin Junaidee was in the chair. The meeting noted with concern that anti-democracy forces were at work and efforts were being made to fail new initiatives, being taken by the Pakistan Peoples Party to strengthen democracy in Pakistan.
The meeting expressed its satisfaction over the way the central leadership of PPP was dealing with other political parties and trying to make friends with its political adversary. The labour leaders said that the ongoing process of reconciliation and understanding would also be extended toward the problems of the working class and their grievances would also be looked into.
The meeting discussed problems the trade unions are facing and the anti-labour laws that have restricted their activities and have forced them to submit to harshness of respective management. It was decided that problems, being faced by the working class, would be identified and proposal for solution would be articulated for submission to the Federal and provincial governments for implementation.
They decided to prioritise all issues and take them with relevant authorities as soon as normal functioning of the governments resumes. Among others HBWF President Haji Mohammed Yakoub, Senior Vice-President Syeda Nadira Parveen and Secretary General Nasiruddin Mehmood attended the meeting.
