Erra's Deputy Chairman Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed and Ambassador of Italy Vincenzo Prati on Saturday presented a newly built College block, three schools and 29 water supply Schemes to the residents of Bagh district, Azad Kashmir. These institutions were completely wrecked in the massive October-2005 earthquake.
The Post-Graduate College for boys, Bagh has been reconstructed by an Italian organisation, Alisea. It has 14 classrooms and has cost the organisation nearly 410,000 euros.
At the inauguration ceremony, Lieutenant General Nadeem spoke about the three schools and a college block that have been built, saying the completion of these buildings fit in Erra's effort to speedily rehabilitate educational institutions so that students may carry on their education in a more modern and better equipped buildings and thus the overall educational standard may improve. Erra would provide every possible facility to schools and colleges to improve education standards, he said.
As for the completion of water supply schemes, Nadeem said it was another step forward in solving an age-old problem and would certainly improving conditions here as well as the lives of those affected during the earthquake. Three schools reconstructed by a consortium of Anatolian Development Foundation (ADF), Swiss agency HEKS and Swiss Solidarity cost about $347,000.
The facility includes a Government Boys Middle School, Guar Koala, with six classrooms, four science halls with rooms for office, staff and store. In addition, the Government Boys Middle School Surung has 4 classrooms, a science hall and space for office and staff room. The Government Girls Primary School, Surung has three classrooms and an office room.
These facilities have been built on international standards. One sq meter has been allocated for each student and the facility also has in-built toilet. These schools have water supply and sewer systems for thirty girls and sixty boys.
The education institutions are furnished. Students have been provided school bags and school stationery for one year in addition to sports kits.
As for 29 water supply schemes in Bagh, they have been constructed at a cost of $150,000. They have provision of a doorstep water tap, RCC water tanks and protected water sources, which also provide water to mosques and schools. Vincenzo Prati, the Italian Ambassador, distributed T-shirts among the students provided by the football team of Udine, an Italian town. He also assured his government's continued support for reconstruction and rehabilitation of quake-hit areas, and the people.
