Six members of peace jirga were killed and scores of other injured when firing broke out between the peace brokers at Maira Asghar Mela, situated at the confluence of Kohat and Orakzai agency boundary, some 50 kilometers off Kohat on Saturday.
The jirga was on between Mishtikhel and Kachai tribes to settle a firing dispute that claimed two lives of women few days ago in the area. The peace jirga turned into bloody clashes when negotiators lost their patience and took out arms.
However, the district administrations as well as the district police of Kohat, Hangu and political authorities of Orakzai agency when contacted were engaged in determining the venue whether it falls in the settled parts of the province or the tribal belt.
The district police was adamant that the incident occurred in the tribal area while the political administration was passing on the buck at the district administration.
