The English Speaking Union of Pakistan recently held their Annual Public-Speaking Competition at the Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi, says a press release.
This is a competition that seems to have taken strong roots. It was a wonderful programme that had a very high turnout of schools, and their representatives which showed the enthusiasm the students had for the theme 'New Horizons', 'New Frontiers', that was elected in London by the English Speaking Union for their International Public-Speaking competition which will be held in early May, 2008, the release said.
The event was sponsored by ICI Pakistan Limited, Ahmed Jaffer and Company (Pvt) Limited, Qatar Airways, Avari Group of Companies and Oxford University Press. The welcome address was briefly made by Abdul Kader Jaffer, Senior Vice President of ESUP.
A large number of students from Karachi and upcountry schools participated in the competition and it was Alliya Akhtar of Lahore Grammar School, Rajab Ali Sayed of St Patrick's High School "A" Level, Karachi and Fizza Bangash of Bahria College, Naval Complex, Islamabad got first, second and third position respectively. The judges for this contest were Ameena Saiyid, Managing Director of Oxford University Press, Muneeza Shamsie, an eminent writer, Andrew Wiliams, Principal of the British Overseas School, Karachi and Talha Iqbal, Associate of the School of Leadership.-PR
