The Pepsi Company will sponsor Pakistani tennis champion Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi to promote the game. Company Managing Director Mariam Khan announcing the sponsorship, told a press conference on Saturday, "With several accolades in a short span of time, we believe that Aisam has a long way to go in his tennis career and in bringing further pride to Pakistan.
We formally announce that the Pepsi Co will support Aisam with coaching and training facilities." She said, "This is not the first for the Pepsi Co since 1987. The Pepsi Co Pakistan has contributed to the uplift and promotion of cricket in Pakistan.
In the very same manner, we at Pepsi Co aim to work towards nurturing emerging tennis players in Pakistan and working towards their growth that will lead towards bringing honor and recognition for Pakistan. It is my aim to not only bring recognition and honour to Pakistan with my victories in sports, but also be able to coach emerging tennis players of our country. I appreciate the support and encouragement that Pepsi Co has brought to the world of sports and it is my pleasure to be joining hands with them."
Qureshi began his career in 1996 with the Pakistan International Junior Championships. He then went on to win more, such as the Casablanca Cup in Mexico and the LTA International Junior Championships, in Roehampton. By 18, he was a top 20 junior player and decided to turn professional.
His coach, Rodrigo Nascimento, said, "During the length of my association with Tennis since the early 90's, I've had the opportunity of working with a host of leading players like Arantx Sanchez and Monica Seles. Today, I take pride and pleasure to share with you that I look forward to work with Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi. With his skill and determination, I see Aisam going a long way in excelling in the sport." After a formal agreement signed between Qureshi and the company, Nascimento exchanged a few shots of tennis before his audience.
