Former judge Wajhiuddin on Tuesday expressed concern over a meeting by deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry with Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, saying the judges should do their own impeachment.
He said no one could be bailed out from his unlawful act through legislation, and said judiciary after its independence should examine National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). He was addressing a function, arranged by All Philosopher Lawyers Association (Alfa) in honour of the bar members, who faced hardships during the lawyers movement.
Wajih said the lawyers' movement was about to conclude, hence the deposed chief justice should avoid from such activities in future. He said the judges and military generals alliance always caused severe damage to the country, and added that judges and generals were not bad individuals, but some forces find some generals like Pervez Musharraf, who could even compromise on the national interests.
He said military high officials should consider such issues at their own to avoid the destruction in the country. He said all the judges appointed after November 3, 2007 were illegal and unconstitutional as there were no vacancies in the higher courts, and added that the judges, who had taken oath under PCO should be reviewed by the Supreme Judicial Council.
He said the economic stability in the country was dependent on the independence of judiciary, and added that the same could not be established in Pakistan as the rulers ousted the judges with one stroke of the pen.
Commenting on the support value of wheat Wajih said the government had announced to stop wheat smuggling, but he termed it a double edge sword as neither it could stop smuggling nor could give relief to the poor. He said lawyers should continue to keep pressure on the present government also for the reinstatement of the judges unless and until the judiciary was not revived to November 3, 2007 stage.
