It is, therefore, requested that action may be taken on Sugar Advisory Board's recommendations relevant to ministries (provincial departments).
First meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board (SAB) held on March 13, 2008 for taking an overview of the sugar sector and looking into the issues/problems of sugarcane growers and sugar industry.
The secretary welcomed and briefed the participants about mandate/terms of references (ToRs) of SAB. He emphasised the need for coming up with pragmatic approach/proposals for sustainable growth of the sugar sector. He invited the participants to bring forth the issues pertaining to the sugarcane growers and the sugar industry.
The Minfal additional secretary appreciated the effort of MOIP&Sl for holding of this meeting. He said sugarcane growers were facing some genuine problems, which needed to be redressed. He proposed to have Sugar Advisory Board meetings at least twice a year - the one before the start of crushing season and the other after the crushing season. The representative of Sindh Abadgar Board explained the difficulties of the sugarcane growers eg high cost of inputs, water intensive crop.-PR
