Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Dr A Rehman Malik has said the government will set up an independent Police Complaints Authority (PCA) for the redressal of public complaints.
"Providing relief to common man in his daily interaction with police was one of the top priorities of the government," he said while presiding over a meeting of National Public Safety Commission (NPSC) here.
Rehman said the government would consider establishing independent PCA at earliest at the provincial level for redressal of citizens' grievances against the police. He asked the Commission to also consider establishing model police station in the country as a pilot project where working environment similar to Motorway Police would be provided.
The Advisor asked the NPSC to come up with concrete proposals linking performance of police officers with crime control in their respective jurisdictions as judged by retired senior officers.
Rehman Malik asked the Commission to offer suggestions on abolition of Frontier Crimes Regulations in the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata). He said the constitutional protection should be made available to the judiciary and the police to bring about a radical change in the quality of criminal justice in the country.
