National Agriculture Education Accreditation Council (NAEAC) is in process of developing a system to assess the quality and standards of agriculture education in the agri-universities and colleges of the country.
The Council will give accreditation to only those degree awarding academic programmes which meet the threshold criteria set by the Council and Higher Education Commission (HEC). Chairman (NAEAC) Dr M E Tusneem expressed his pleasure over the completion of Council membership from all the sectors as mentioned in the HEC Ordinance.
While addressing the 2nd meeting of the Council here, he stressed upon the members to own this Council and asked them to put their efforts for achieving the goals of the Council as set by HEC. He further said that NAEAC has representation of experts from Academia, research institutions, leading industries and R&D institutions in public and private sectors. The primary objective of the accreditation council was to improve the standard and quality of education of the agriculture disciplines, he added.
It was proposed unanimously that weightage of this criteria should not be applicable on agriculture colleges. They agreed on the number of criteria, weightage and key aspects for each criterion. There was also consensus on accreditation fee of Rs 10,000 per degree programme from the University and may paid by the university as the academic programmes always have nominal budget allocations.
It was agreed that programme evaluators may be paid Rs 5,000 per day as remuneration while on accreditation visit in addition to TA-DA as per HEC rules.
