Federal Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H. Naek has expressed concern over stoning to death of a male and female on Monday after a "Qazi court's" verdict in Khwezai Baezai, Fata. This was the first incident of Rajam (stoning to death) in the areas. Earlier, couples found guilty of adultery by tribesmen were executed by firing squads.
A spokesman for the tribesmen had said that the woman named Shano was married and living in Peshawar's Deen Bahar colony. A complaint was lodged by her family that she had been abducted by Daulat Khan of Bara. But, later on it was "revealed" that she allegedly elope with him from Mohmand Agency on March 15, he said.
Afterwards, some members of the Taliban movement captured them from Nowshera, when the couple was returning from Karachi. The Qazi found the couple guilty of adultery and sentenced them to death by stoning, which was carried out in Khwaezai-Baezai, about 40 km west of the Mohmand Agency's headquarters Ghalanai.
The body of the woman was laid to rest in the same area by some local people, whereas man's body was taken to the hospital and was handed over to his relatives. According to a statement issued by the ministry, here on Friday, the minister condemned the incident and asked the concerned authorities in the aforesaid Agency to take action against the culprits and punish them according to the law of the land.
