Separate rocket attacks on Sunday on the highly fortified Green Zone and a US military base in Baghdad killed three American soldiers and wounded at least 17, a US military spokeswoman said. The attacks occurred between 3.30 pm and 3.45 pm (1230 GMT and 1245 GMT), the spokeswoman said, asking not to be named.
"In the attack on the Green Zone, two rockets killed two US service personnel and wounded between 17 and 19," the spokeswoman said. "At about the same time a rocket attack on a forward operating base in the Rustumiyah area (eastern Baghdad) killed another serviceman," she added.
