New elected democratic government under the leadership of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would take steps for welfare of the workers and establish cordial labour management relations.
This was pledged at a meeting of the representatives of "Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union" C.B.A. on last evening in Wapda House with Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Federal Minister, Water and Power, says a press release issued here on Sunday.
The union was represented by Khurshid Ahmed, General Secretary of the Union along with Syed Zahid Hussain Shah, Osama Tariq, Muhammad Ayyub, Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah, Raqeeb Shah, Haji Muhammad Sharif, Chaudhry Noor Muhammad, Hassan Munir Bhati and other representatives of the union.
The legitimate demands of the Wapda/Pepco workers would be solved through bilateral dialogue with accredited representatives of their C.B.A. Trade Union. All steps would be taken to ensure their safe working environment to avoid accidents at work place.
The workers should continue to improve their performance through providing "Better Services" to the consumers and raise their professional skill. The minister declared that the government had been taking concrete steps to raise power generation in the country.
The union delegation urged the government and Wapda authority to up-grade the pay scales of Wapda and Pepco. They demanded steps to raise power generation on emergent basis and get conserved electricity by prohibition of unproductive use of electricity on illumination and sign boards to divert it to industrial and agriculture production.
Welcoming the announcement of the Prime Minister for the welfare of the workers, they assured their co-operation and support for raising productivity of the national institution and serve the nation with dedication.
