A World Congress for Religions (WCR) delegation comprising representatives of Hindu, Sikh and Christian communities lead by Shia Scholar, Allama Fakhrul Hassan Kararvi met with the NWFP Governor, Owais Ahmed Ghani on Sunday.
The delegation presented a detail information about the aims and objectives of the organisation and said that it was working to create inter-faith harmony and brotherhood among the followers of different religions in Pakistan.
The WCR was established four years ago to promote religious harmony among peoples of different religion and held a number of conferences on national, provincial and district level and participated by hundreds of people from different religious beliefs, including foreign delegates.
They said that the WCR wished to create a society, free of religious and faith discrimination, where followers of every religion had equal opportunities to independently practice their religious beliefs and live a safe and secure life.
The Governor appreciated the spirit and efforts of Aalami Majlis-e-Adyan saying that religious harmony and co-existence was the need of the hour in the backdrop of the current scenario prevalent in the region and the world.
He said that inter-faith tension and conflicts were harmful for peace that needed to be arrested. This, he added, could be possible by creating the sense of patience, harmony and respect for other's religious beliefs and thoughts amongst the masses.
"Islam lays stress on securing the rights of minorities and if, we follow the teachings of Islam, our society would become an egalitarian free of religious discriminations and hatred", he added.
Further, Ghani said, no religion supports violence rather teach and propagate peace and harmony. "We can make the world cradle of peace by promoting inter-faith harmony and cohesion", Ghani added.
Further, he viewed that the prevalent global tension and conflicts were not because of the faiths or religions but had been the result of geo-political scenario, therefore religions must not be blamed for it.
The Governor stressed the need for creating more such organisations and forums that could strive for inter-faith harmony and assured all out support to the organisation.
