The Director of the National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NIHCR), Dr Khurram Qadir has said that the two-day conference on "Leaders of Pakistan Movement" was an orientation for inter-provincial relationship and the contribution of provincial leadership towards the freedom struggle.
The Vice Chancellor (VC), Quaid-i-Azam University, Professor M Qasim Jan, inaugurated this conference at the NIHCR here on Monday. "Leadership is the gift of God and our leaders should guide and lead their people with sincerity as it would bring significant change in Pakistan as well as the Muslim world", the VC said in his inaugural address.
He also observed, the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah has been rightly evaluated and placed on top of the leaders' list in the history, followed by the name of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and Allama Iqbal.
Sir Syed set the foundation of the greatest movement that has been ever taken in the religious, social and educational sphere and succeeded in arresting the degeneration of the whole Muslim nation. Then, Iqbal visualised the idea of Pakistan that was put to final form by Jinnah, the VC viewed. "The NIHCR must write the true history of the country and the deliberations of the conference would help attaining the objective", he added.
The former Director of Quaid-i-Azam Professor Shariful Mujahid urged to re-evaluate the contribution of the past leaders. While presenting his paper on "Jinnah's Team: The Top Ten Leaders", he said Jinnah groomed his personality within the Muslim League and for him, politics without his party was inconceivable.' Therefore, he worked through a party to create and train a second cadre of leadership.'
He quoted the editorial of "The Times", London, dated 13th September, 1948, "'Jinnah knew his efforts would be fouteless without future capable leaders, who could work independently without his guidance. So, he stood in the background to boost their confidence."
Mujahid's list of 10 top leaders include the names of Liaquat Ali Khan (1985-1951), Nawab Bahadur Yar Jang (1905-1944), Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy (1893-1963), Allama Shabbir Ahmad Usmani (1885-1949), Khwaja Nazimuddin (1894-1964), Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar (1899-1958), Mohammad Ayub Khuhro (1901-1980), Khan Abdul Qaiyum Khan (1901-1980) and Nawab Mohammad Ismail (1886-1958).
The list also included the names of Sir Abdullah Haroon, Raja Mahmoodabad, Nawab Ifhtikar Mamdot (1906-1969), Qazi Muhamamd Isa (1914-76), Chaudhry Khaliquzzaman Khan (1889-1973), Nawab Siddique Ali Khan (1900-74) and Abul Hashim of former East Bengal as the leaders of second cadre.
