A single bench comprising Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Sardar Mohammad Aslam here on Friday, after conclusion of arguments by both parties, reserved judgement over a bail plea by Shahid Jamil Qureshi, a former federal minister for communication.
Wasim Sajjad and Omar Hassan Sajjad appeared as counsel for the former minister. They argued that Shahid Jamil's bail application be accepted on the ground of the benefit of doubt. They said that his alleged involvement in the murder of Kafila Siddiqui had not been proved. He was innocent and was implicated in a crime which he never committed as it was evident from investigation report or from different statements, they added.
The counsel also produced various proofs and cited relevant laws. Qasim Chauhan, advocate, appearing as counsel for the respondents (Kafila Siddiqui), in his arguments said that Qureshi was arrested on valid ground. The former minister was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of Kafila Siddiqui, a 38-year-old Canadian businesswoman, on June 9 last year.
She was found dead in the house of Shahid Jamil Qureshi in Sector G-11/3. The Federal Capital police arrested Shahid Jamil after registering a murder case on the application of Kafila's brother Mustafa Siddiqui. Mustafa in his application submitted that Shalimar Police station had accused Shahid Qureshi for the mysterious death of his sister.
