Economic wing has started functioning in Pakistan Embassy at Tokyo from April 01, 2008. Iftikhar Babar has joined the embassy as Minister (economic), the embassy said on Friday.
While highlighting the importance and significance of this wing during his meeting with a delegation of the overseas Pakistani businessmen, Babar recalled the existing friendly and bilateral economic and trade relations between the two countries for the last five decades.
He said Japan has always been helpful in assisting Pakistan through financial and technical cooperation. Around 60 projects have already been completed which include the Indus Highway Project, Kohat Tunnel Project, Taunsa Barrage Project, Bin Qasim and Jamshoro Thermal Power Stations and numerous other projects in social sectors speak volumes of Japans interest in the economic development of Pakistan.
Opening of an exclusive Economic Wing in the embassy reflects a strong desire of the Government of Pakistan to further augment and strengthen these strong bilateral economic relations. Pakistan with a booming economy, strategic geographical location, a large skilled and cheap workforce offers a wide potential market for the Japanese entrepreneurs to invest especially in automobiles, telecommunications, oil refining and energy sectors.
