Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior A. Rehman Malik Friday said that additional powers have been given to Rangers in Karachi for maintaining peace and law and order in the city. He said this here while presiding over a high level meeting at Rangers Headquarters arranged to review law and order situation in the city.
He stated that Rangers would take stern action against those elements, who are hell-bent to create disturbances. He said miscreants will be prosecuted under the relevant laws in order to set precedent so that nobody could dare challenge the writ of the state.
"Additional powers have been given to Rangers for maintaining the peace and tranquillity in the city at large, within the parameters of law." He greatly appreciated the prompt and effective measures taken by Sindh Rangers, which resulted in containing the menace of lawlessness spearheaded by the miscreants.
He paid glowing tributes to Rangers officials and personnel for maintaining peace in the city. The Minister issued necessary directives for further strengthening the organisational structure and working mechanism of the force. He said it would enable the force to deal effectively with the ever increasing challenges in the realm of law and order.
The Federal Interior Adviser also announced a comprehensive package for enhancing the professional capabilities and welfare of the Rangers troops. Under this special package Rangers would be equipped with modern equipment and gadgets to enabling them to effectively deal with miscreants.
Moreover he sanctioned the upgradation of the much awaited Rangers Anti Terrorist Force which is playing a pivotal role in curbing the menace of terrorism. He also proposed to enhance the compensation money for the Rangers troops, who laid down their lives in performance of the duties from Rs 5 lacs to 9 lacs.
Rehman also introduced the system of insurance scheme, under which the troops who lost their lives or sustained injuries will be provided monetary benefits. He vowed the government will take all possible steps in order to maintain peace in the province in general and Karachi in particular. He assured the government will protect the lives and property of its citizens at all costs.
Earlier, he was accorded a warm welcome by Director General Sindh Rangers Major General Liaqat Ali along with senior Rangers officials on his arrival. He was given a detailed briefing on the matters relating to the professional preparedness and organisational setup of the force.
