Lawyers' representatives on Friday announced a three-day mourning and a two-day boycott of courts over the killing of lawyers in Karachi on April 09. The lawyers also offered Ghaibana Namaz-e-Jannaza on the Mall Road. They observed sit in at the Mall and remained there for some time chanting slogans against President Musharraf and MQM.
The lawyers demanded compensation for the heirs of the deceased and for those whom offices were set on fire besides an impartial enquiry into the Karachi and Mianwali incidents and exemplary punishment for those involved in the violence.
The lawyers also demanded reinstatement of the deposed judges immediately and asked the government not to find any escape from the issue. The lawyers were wearing black strips and black flags were also hosted on the bar building to mourn the deaths of bar members in Karachi incident.
The Bar President, Anwar Kamal and other senior members addressed the gathering. They said that lawyers would not accept any constitutional package except the reinstatement of all the judges including Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
They said that the incidents of violence in Lahore, Karachi and Mianwali show that government is hatching conspiracies against the lawyers to defame them and create conflicts among their ranks. They asked the bar members to remain united and keep vigilant eyes on the traitors among them.
