The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has welcomed the Federal Minister, Water and Power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf's idea of closing all commercial centres in the country at 7 pm, holidays for the industrial sector, but rejected "two" weekly holidays, as it would badly affect the production.
The President, LCCI, Mohammad Ali Mian said in statement on Sunday, in the wake of acute power shortage in the country, the proposal to close all commercial centres by 7 pm and staggering holidays for the industry was justified and would definitely help bridging the gap between demand and supply.
He, however, rejected the proposed two weekly holidays termed it unworkable as it would hamper the overall production besides increasing the sufferings of the daily wagers.
He said the LCCI had already forwarded its proposal regarding the early closure of commercial centres and holidays for industry to the government and other concerned departments. Further, the LCCI president said that in the coming days electricity demand would go up further and this is the best possible solution to bridge the demand-supply gap.
He also expressed the hope that the Federal Minister would announce all such decisions after taking all the chambers of commerce and industry into confidence. Mian stressed the government to ensure the implementation of its energy conservation plan that would help the government to get additional 500 mega watts electricity.
