Kazakhstan, Central Asia's largest grain exporter, suspended wheat exports on Tuesday to protect the domestic market following global price rises. Rising grain prices have contributed to a rise in Kazakhstan's inflation, which hit 18.8 percent last year after staying within single digits for several years before.
"A decision has been made to ban exports of wheat without restricting flour exports for a period until September 1, 2008," it said in a statement.
