Since the government is keen to improve the internal security, the Interior Ministry and National Police Bureau (NPB) have been tasked to translate the law and order policies of government into reality, said newly appointed Director General of NPB Tariq Masood Khosa here on Wednesday.
"It is national political will to eradicate crimes at all levels and provide good governance and people-friendly policing to the masses", he said while addressing a press conference after assuming his office.
He said that a conference of inspector generals of all the four provinces would be held to make sure smooth co-ordination for addressing people grievances. A monitoring and complaint cell was set up at NPB, which would receive complaints and ensure immediate action, he said, adding the NPB would monitor all the departments both at Federal and provincial level.
"All the concerned departments have been asked to formulate tactical action plans to implement the government policy and strategy of the Interior Ministry and the NPB for improving law and order and inspector generals are asked to ensure law and order situation", he said.
He said that Public Safety Commission (PSC) was an effective body for monitoring and the NPB had demanded its reactivation at Federal, provincial and district levels. The National Assembly was asked to nominate six MNAs (three each from treasury and opposition benches) for reconstitution of a 12-member Public Safety Commission at the Federal level and provinces would also be asked to reactivate provincial and district PSCs, he said.
Talking on bi-annual Saarc police chiefs' conference, being held in Islamabad, he said that last year it was decided that interior ministers of the member countries would meet once a year, while police chiefs would meet twice a year.
This is the first bi-annual conference, which discussed the sharing of information through Saarc Terrorist Offences Monitoring Desk (STOMD) and the Saarc Drug Offences Monitoring Desk (SDOMD) among the member countries.
He said that South Asian region was ready to carry out a joint policing system in line with the Europol, which was implemented by the European Union attained after decades long discussions.
He said that the Saarc member countries had started taking confidence building measures (CBMs) to attain the desired goal of joint policing and sharing of information on the crimes. The participants of the conference deliberated on ways and means to make the STOMD, SDOMD and networking system for elimination of crimes by sharing crime related information electronically.
He said that the recommendations made in three sessions of the conference would be taken up in final session of the conference of police chiefs of the member countries on Thursday for approval, after which these recommendations would be sent to the Saarc Secretariat. Tariq Khosa, praised the efforts of his predecessor Dr Shoaib Suddle, who was appointed as Inspector General of Sindh Police, for making NPB an effective organisation.
