Terrorism, drug smuggling, other crimes: Saarc countries agree on sharing of intelligence

The experts from South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (Saarc) countries on counter terrorism on Wednesday agreed on intelligence sharing for curbing terrorism, drug smuggling and other transitional crimes.
National Police Bureau (NPB), Director General, Tariq Khosa told this after the concluding session of a two-day Saarc conference on counter terrorism.
He said during the two-day conference the experts deliberated on the issue and emphasised on a joint strategy for elimination of these crimes from the region.
Khosa said that the meeting of Police Chiefs of Saarc countries on counter terrorism will start on Thursday.
The newly appointed DG of NPB and Secretary National Public Safety Commission (NPSC) told the press conference that the summary of new members of NPSC has been sent to Speaker National Assembly for approval.
He said that nomination of three members from opposition benches and three from treasury benches has been sought in the summary. Khosa said that Public Safety Commissions will be made more efficient at provincial and district levels for redressal of public complaints. He said a cell has been set up at NPB for addressing the grievances of public regarding police department.
He underlined political will and support for reforms in police department and good governance.
To a question, he said in order to evaluate the performance of police departments across the country, the IGPs has been directed by Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior A Rehman Malik to submit their daily performance report to NPB.
