The Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has strongly protested against the additional duty of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD). PTU Jhang-chapter's President Muhammad Nawaz Khalid in his statement said the provincial government had made all efforts to enhance the literacy rate and quality education.
The students belonging to government schools of the district had showed excellent results in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Faisalabad because of the hard work of male and female teachers posted in far-flung and urban areas of the district, he said.
The PTU president further said the NCHD had launched a project to promote universal primary education and adult literacy programme in the district. The NCHD administration was provided funds of millions of rupees to execute the educational programme but they allegedly spent huge amount on purchasing vehicles and hired staffers posted in its offices by offering attractive salary packages.
The NCHD administration had fixed the honoraria of Rs 2,000 for AEOs, 2,000 to 3,000 for DDOEs, 5,000 for DOs and 10,000 for EDO education. Resultantly, the EDO education bounded the male and female teachers of government schools to prepare reports and other record of NCHD, the PTU president said, adding the teachers remained busy in NCHD work and their teaching was badly affected.
He pointed out that it was a clear policy of the government and even the Supreme Court of Pakistan's ruling that teachers could not be assigned any duty other than teaching but Education Department officers were working against it only for few thousands rupees.
He demanded Punjab chief Secretary, Secretary Education, District Nazim and DCO Jhang to end teachers' NCHD duty so that quality education could be imparted to the students in the district. When contacted, EDO Education Mushtaq Khan told the newsmen that District Government had singed a memorandum of understanding with NCHD and he directed his subordinates to help the NCHD. When asked that no MoU or agreement could force them contrary to service rules, he did not reply.
