Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Secretary General for International Affairs Sheikh Kaiser Mahmood has said the flour crisis is the result of wrong policies by the previous government and it would be overcome with effective planning by the present government.
Addressing a meeting at Shadman on Friday, Kaiser said, in the PML-Q rule people were deprived of basic needs of life including food and rulers indulged in loot and plunder and exploited masses. He alleged, "When people were not getting even flour, PML-Q leaders were busy in building palaces and Chief Minister Secretariat here at a cost of Rs 1.5 billion."
He said massive corruption committed by former rulers was yet to be exposed adding that those who looted national wealth they must have to face accountability. Referring to recent report of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, he said, "2007 was the worst year in the history of Pakistan with one man taking extreme steps to curb independence of judiciary and freedom of press. Country faced political crisis and people hunger."
He said working with Pervez Musharraf would mean committing treachery with the blood of thousands of martyrs. He said people had given mandate to democratic forces for changing the system and not for changing faces. He said the election of President as per constitution is essential for strengthening and continuation of democratic process in the country, adding in the presence of Pervez Musharraf democracy could never flourish in Pakistan.
