Health professionals have expressed grave concern over increasing incidents of Type-II diabetes and urged the parents to promote healthy lifestyle among their children.
They said that parents should realise that children primarily attempt to copy their parents and due care for healthy life style on the part of adults could help avert the looming disaster emerging due to unhealthy lifestyle and diseases associated with it.
They told Business Recorder that although, exact statistics about the number of our children inflicted with diabetes type-II not known but the incidence rate is substantial. They said the trend of disease among children is not restricted to urban areas or kids pertaining to the upper socio-economic strata of the society rather the disease is on rise among children of all strata of society.
The 14-15 years old child presently inflicted with type two diabetes will be exposed to all relevant complications in next 10 years at the prime age of 24, they warned. Time would then be short in managing and will be more difficult for these young diabetics to avoid risk of losing eye sight, foot imputations, heart attacks and renal failure in their late 20s or 30s, they added.
They said the ultimate impact on the national economies and trickle down effect on global economy can not be ignored coupled with all the more alarming pathetically poor life quality.
College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan Regional Director Professor Khalid Masood Gondal attributed rise in the disease the result of the global culture of "Fast Food". The aggressive marketing tactics to lure school children towards "package deals" offering food rich in fat and carbohydrates and adulterated drinks at subsidised rates has definitely emerged as a serious problem.
He said that till recent years we could find people aged between 40 years to 50 years diagnosed with the condition and put on immediate treatment. He referred to extreme relevance of stress management in controlling the disease.
