Industrial Information Network (IIN), Project Director, Salman Khalid has said that business community has tremendous opportunity to enhance business by offering their products and services globally using the Internet and e-mail.
He was speaking at a seminar on 'Business-to-Business (B2B) Portal: Training and Awareness' jointly organised by the IIN and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday.
Khalid said that the IIN is a joint venture of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom and Ministry of Industries and Production with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) as the executing agency.
He said that the project is aimed at promoting E-commerce in Pakistan by providing B2B and business information services, capacity building of SMEs using IT as the tool, providing access to world markets and strengthening business outreach and facilitation by providing latest business information.
Khalid said that there are around 3.2 million economic establishments in the country out of which only 206,000 can afford using IT while 82,500 are utilising it for business purposes.
Giving statistics, he said that there are around 12.5 million Internet and 70 million mobile phone users in the country. He said that around 20 percent of world population is using Internet. While in Asia alone around 38 percent people are using Internet.
He said that the IIN provides facility of free designing and uploading business website. It has also developed a business directory, which has contact information of 1.3 million importers, exports, manufactures, buyers and sellers around the world.
Khalid said that IIN online auction is a marketplace providing individuals and businesses with an opportunity to market products over the Internet. The IIN offers authentic business leads, buying inquiries and selling offers from around the world.
