The Supreme Court on Monday will resume the hearing of election petitions filed by the candidates from different constituencies, seeking partial re-polling at the stations where polls were allegedly rigged.
A five-member larger bench of the apex court comprising Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi, Justice Zia Perwez, Justice Mian Hamid Farooq, Justice Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery and Justice Farrukh Mahmud will take up these petitions.
Aftab Shahban Mirani had filed an election petition from NA-202, Shikarpur through his counsel Sardar Latif Khosa seeking re-polling at some disputed stations. Khosa argued that as the Election Commission has the prerogative to ask for re-polling in a constituency as a whole due to certain reasons; it could also announce re-polling in some disputed polling stations of the constituencies. Whereas, Abdul Hafeez Pirzada is appearing before the court as a counsel for the respondent Muhammad Ibrahim.
Similarly, Lieutenant General Salahuddin Tirmizi(Retd), candidate of PML-N from NA-20 Mansehra I, had filed the petition through his counsel Dr Babar Awan. The court had asked the Attorney General to define the jurisdiction of Islamabad High Court as the matter was also taken by it prior to the Supreme Court. Dr Babar Awan will continue his arguments on Monday.
