Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation Dr N M Butt has said that entire world is investing huge resources on nanotechnology in order to grab the fruit of maximum yield potential from the existing soil resources.
Addressing the participants of closing ceremony of international conference of plant scientists, he pointed out that by efficient use of nano-magnet technology the soil contamination could be reduced by manifold.
He said that Pakistan has formulated a national commission on nanosciences and technology to gear up with gigantic advancements in this field adding that there were about 7 conferences were held in this regard and lot of activities are going on.
Highlighting the role of Pakistan Science Foundation Dr Butt said that his organisation was busy in propagating the science culture in the country and the science caravan successfully visited more than 500 schools of the rural areas of the country. He said PSF has organised an international mathematics exhibition at Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar in order to create awareness and inspiration for mathematics among the younger generation.
Professor Iqrar Ahmad Khan VC University of Agriculture, Faisalabad said that UAF will establish a multipurpose large botanical garden at campus in which unique and precious medicinal and other traditional plants would be cultivated. He further said that regional botanical gardens would also be set up at sub campuses of the university.
He urged female students to take keen interest in plant sciences as the plants have delicate and an aesthetic value. Dr Iqrar stressed upon the exploitation of plant physiology, bio-technology, genetics and biological sciences in the country so that the new innovative approaches can be practised at research institutions.
Earlier, presenting the recommendations of the conference, President Pakistan Botanical Society and Dean, Faculty of Sciences Dr Muhammad Ashraf told that there were more than 100 oral as well as 300 poster presentations were held during 23 technical sessions of the 4-day conference. He acclaimed the efforts of HEC and Pakistan Science Foundation for extending all possible facilities to the researchers and young folk of the society.
