On the intervention of Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resources Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna, the dispute between power looms owners and workers of Dhudiwala-Jaranwala Road has been settled.
According to the reconciliation pact, the workers would end the strike and go to their work immediately, while power looms owners would withdraw the criminal case against a labour leader Niaz Kamoka, president of Powerlooms Workers Union. On strong protestation of power looms workers, the Minister took notice of the issue and reached Faisalabad for its resolution here on Tuesday.
He held meeting with labour leaders and power looms owners at Circuit House, Faisalabad, to ascertain the root-cause of the issue. DCO Azam Suleman Khan, DO (Labour) Hasnat Javed, DO (HRM) Hasan Raza, SP Civil Lines Asghar Ali, DSP Khalid Malik, a former provincial minister, Badar-ud-Din, representatives of power looms owners/industrialists Waheed Khaliq Ramay, chairman, standing committee on powerlooms sector Muhammad Shafiq, chairman, All Pakistan Sizing Industries Association Zafar Maraj, labour leaders Zahoor Hussain, Parvez Iqbal, Muhamamd Younas and others were present in the meeting.
Just after the meeting, talking to newsmen, the minister said that strikes/agitation were not in the national and individual interest, and issues should be solved through negotiations and mutual understanding.
He said that all labour organisations in Punjab had been appealed to avoid strike and agitation and, in case of any issue/demand, he should be informed directly, following which he would reach there himself for redressing the problems amicably in a pleasant environment. He underlined the need for good relations between employers and employees for industrial peace and progress.
The minister also met the power looms workers who had gathered at Circuit House in large number. He listened to their problems and assured them that all-out efforts would be made for the welfare, betterment and development of the labour classes.
He said the new government believed into changing the standard of lives of the workers and intended to launch a number of welfare projects in near future. Later. the minister visited District Jail along with the power looms workers and met their labour leader Niaz Kamoka, who was confined there in a criminal case, which was lodged by power looms factory owner.
