Provincial Minister for Works and Services, Manzoor Hussain Wassan has said that the present government attaches high priority to the development of Sindh. He was talking to a delegation of Soomro Community from Khairpur district, which called on him at his office on Tuesday.
The Minister said that the government would soon initiate new housing schemes under which 0.15 million houses would be provided to low-income people. He further said that as many as one million houses would be built in the country in five years.
The Federal government has also planned to construct 145,000 flats in various cities of the country, he added. The Minister said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is committed to provide residential facilities to homeless people. Wassan said that a comprehensive strategy would also be devised to provide residential facilities in rural areas at par with the towns.
The Minister told the delegation that Rs 2 billion had been allocated for providing jobs to youth as the government was determined to eradicate poverty from the province. He said that the US had provided Rs 10 billion to Pakistan for poverty alleviation but the previous government misused the funds.
The Minister said that a comprehensive programme had been chalked out for providing 16 acres of land to landless farmers. In this regard, he added the Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has already directed all DCOs of Sindh to conduct surveys and reclaim the lands that had been illegally occupied by land grabbers. He said that seven districts of Sindh will be made model districts, including Khairpur and Sukkur.
