We were fortunate to have seen the photograph of the host and guests, including their wives, at a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister on Thursday for the formation commanders and services chiefs at the sprawling lawns of the PM House. What a display of ostentatious grandeur with a musical evening (Business Recorder April 25).
Such affluent vanity should be sufficient to confirm that Pakistan is not a poverty-stricken country, whose seventy five percent population lives below the poverty line earning one dollar a day as their wages.
The foreign economy rating agencies including Pakistan, in the list of poverty-stricken country should delist us from that category on the basis of the newspaper photograph, as well as the telecast by the electronic media. We, the people of Pakistan, are impatient and unwise in our asking for food and oil at affordable costs. On the contrary we should begin praying for the longevity of our Moghul styled rulers, thriving at the cost of our lives, reminiscent of the Roman Empire.
