Argentina has signed an agreement with Government of the Punjab for installation of 100 CNG stations and intends to initiate new environment friendly projects in other parts of Pakistan. This was decided in a meeting between Federal Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi and the Ambassador of Argentina Rodolfo Jose Martin Saravia here on Wednesday.
Saravia said that Argentina is seeking co-operation for installation of high pressure CNG stations and provision of CNG cylinders for buses and other mass transport. He said these initiatives would not only help resolve environment related problems but also boost the Pakistan's efforts for energy conservation.
The ambassador apprised the Minister that Pakistan and Argentina have similar views on environmental issues and stressed the need for joint efforts to mitigate the affects of environmental threats. Federal Minister apprised the ambassador about the 100 days agenda of the government particularly the efforts being made for conservation of energy.
He said that bilateral ties in the area of environment should be further strengthened and suggested launching of pilot projects for installation of high pressured CNG stations in Islamabad.
He expressed the hope that these projects can be extended to other parts of the country in future. The minister also emphasised the need for transfer of technology to Pakistan. He said that provision of LPG and installation of CNG stations in Northern Areas and Fata would help reduce deforestation.
