Illegal sale of SIMs: PTA directs for closure of eight mobile phone franchises
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Tuesday directed for permanent closure of eight mobile phone franchises on illegal sale of SIMs. Taking strict action against franchises involved in violating the procedures on sale of new SIM Cards, PTA directed five GSM phone operators to immediately seal and cancel registration of their eight franchises located in different cities across the country.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the closure has come about as a result of a recent survey conducted by PTA to check the sale of new SIM cards. PTA has issued directions for closing of three franchises of Mobilink; one each in Sialkot, Pishin and Rawalpindi, one franchise of Ufone in Rawalpindi, one franchise of CMPak in Sialkot, one franchise of Telenor in Sialkot and two franchises of Warid in Sialkot and Peshawar. All these franchises were found violating the Government policy on sale of new SIMs issued to all mobile phone operators recently.
