Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said "we will restore 1973 constitution, and will give full freedom to judiciary and media". He said this while addressing the Bait-ul-Maal cheque distribution ceremony to the deserving students here on Sunday.
Prime Minister said that in the elections of February 2008, no party could get the majority that's why it was decided to make a coalition government to take the country out from the crisis. "I assure you that our intention was just to serve the country", he added. We will run the government by joining hands with all the political parties. He said "I told everybody not to call me "Makhdoom" after becoming the Prime Minister, now I am "Khadim of the people".
Yousaf Raza said that it is our responsibility to serve the country after the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto and we will try our best to fulfil this responsibility in a better way. "We will not let the parliament and senate to be the rubber stamp" he said adding further, "we promise that we will give full freedom to judiciary so that the people could get cheap justice".
He said that by giving cheques here, only few hundred people could get the benefit, but by providing cheap justice to every one, 160 million people would be benefited. Quoting Sir Winston Churchill in the speech, Yousaf Raza said that those countries do not lose battles where justice is provided to every citizen.
Talking about the electricity crisis, he said that this is a very severe problem but this problem could not be solved in a single day. We are working on it but it will take some time. He said that we would not put this blame of electricity crisis on the former government because we respect governor, who was also present on this occasion. He said that people have given this responsibility to us and now it's our headache to tackle this problem.
About the ceremony, he said that it is the duty of the government to take care of its citizens. We are not obliging them by giving cheques. Giving some facts and figures in his speech, Prime Minister said that 25 percent people are living below the line of poverty, and 56 percent people belonged to white collar class who could be included anytime in the lower class. He said that our strategy is to sustain the middle class in the society, because otherwise the country would head towards revolution. Adding further, he said that 81 percent people are deprived of the basic facilities of life and it is very unfortunate that the price of basic commodities of life has gone record high.
He said that 12.2 percent increase has been recorded in the prices of 53 daily use items. The problems of people have further increased with the recent crisis of water, electricity and wheat, which are the biggest challenges for our government, he said adding that 'our enlightened people know that the crisis could not be solved within a fortnight. That is why people have elected our government.
Yousaf Raza highly appreciated the efforts of ministry of population welfare and Bait-ul-Maal saying that they are doing a good job by helping the poor and needy from time to time. He said that the root cause of poverty is unjust policies. Bait-ul-Maal is providing free books and financial aid to the deserving children, so that they could get good education like all other normal children. He said that Bait-ul-Maal has so far distributed about 600 million rupees among 2.5 million deserving people.
Later on announcing the package for the citizens of Multan , Prime Minister said that Bait-ul-Maal would establish two diagnostic centres for the treatment of kidney in Multan . Women Development Centres would be made on Tehsil level for the development of women. About 200 to 300 women would get training in these centres and after the completion of training every woman would be provided the financial aid of 20 to 30 thousand rupees.
One thousand students of Zakariya University would be given scholarship of Rs 30000. Similarly 500 students of Nishtar Medical College would also be given the scholarships. The students of vocational centre would be given Rs 20, 000 from Bait-ul-Maal.
